The importance of place

We know that caring about what you are doing is an important part of learning, which is part of the appeal of Urban Science and other so-called “place-based” games: They let people “play” with the world they experience around them every day.

A short article in the Northside News paper for June/July 2010 shows that this may be as true for adult reporters as for the children they write about.

From an article about the 4th and 5th grade students at Lakeview Elementary in Madison who played the Northside version of Urban Science this spring:

A fourth grader… explained–as he causally replaced my home with wetlands–that he likes nature.
