Padraig Nash is a graduate student in the Epistemic Games research group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is interested in the issues, challenges, and opportunities presented when sharing existing epistemic games with new educational communities. In particular, he examines how in-game mentors guide players to see and solve problems like professionals.
Background
Padraig Nash has worked in the field of education for over ten years. After completing his BA, in English from Haverford College, he taught high school English and Acting in Morristown, NJ for two years. He then moved to Brooklyn and dedicated himself to writing and acting, while working as a teaching-artist in public schools in the Bronx and Harlem. After three years of teaching-artist work, he became the DreamYard Project’s first Program Director. In his five years as Program Director, Padraig coordinated DreamYard’s in-school programming and delivered DreamYard’s staff development programs. He is currently working with Dr. David Williamson Shaffer on the challenges and opportunities presented when implementing epistemic games in new educational communities, and is particularly interested in the mentoring roles and help systems in epistemic games.
