In order to better analyze the processes by which graduate students become urban planners, and in turn to design experimental learning environments for younger students, the Epistemic Games Group is undertaking a validation study using an online assessment instrument. This instrument will measure expertise within urban planning. We hypothesize that we will detect significant differences in expertise between two groups of participants with either high or low levels of training and experience in urban planning. This research will provide a valid assessment tool for future research in the process of learning to be an urban planner, which in turn will help to improve games used for STEM teaching.
